Best web browser for mac os 93/23/2023 ![]() ![]() So, Redmond wins yet another Mac versus PC Web Browser Grand Prix, this time on a mobile system (and a brand new Core i7-based MacBook, to boot). While many Mac fans expected to see OS X really hammer Windows 7 on a genuine Mac, the home court advantage didn't do Apple any favors. With the recent releases of Opera 5.0 final and iCab Preview 2.6, as well as Netscape 6.2 and Mozilla 0.9.7, its Netscape Communicator that is no longer a viable player. ![]() That's four out of 35 eligible charts, as opposed to the 10 out of 29 OS X earned on the Hackintosh system we used in Web Browser Grand Prix VI: Firefox 6, Chrome 13, Mac OS X Lion. For over a year now, Internet Explorer 5 and Netscape Communicator (4.5-4.7x) have been the only real viable players for PowerPC-based Macs. We use the word occasionally because we only had to switch the Mac OS X green bars to red four times. That’s it, you’re ready to use Internet Explorer 11 just as you. The red bars that occasionally appear in our charts denote when an OS X-based browser beats all of the Windows 7-based competition. Under ‘Internet Explorer’, double-click on IE Tech Preview (or select it and click the Start button) Wait a moment or two while Internet Explorer 11 loads, in a moment a new IE 11 browser window, complete with the familiar Windows UI, will appear on the Mac desktop. Unfortunately, the Mac version of Opera is a mere shadow of its Windows version, landing the Norwegian powerhouse in last place. Firefox 9 really pulled ahead from the last-place finish it received back in August, though. We're going call it in favor of incumbent number two, Google Chrome. iCab and Vivaldi usually offer support for a good number of releases backwards as well (but please note I haven’t checked those in a while, so Mavericks support might’ve been dropped). The OS X runner-up, on the other hand, is highly debatable. A good number of replies here but for a modern sort of browser, go with Firefox ESR (extended support release) or the Firefox Legacy port by parrotgeek. With a staggering number of wins and an equally impressive lack of weaknesses, Safari 5.1.2 simply owns on its native platform. Despite the best efforts of Google, Mozilla, and Opera, Apple Safari retains its OS X Web Browser Grand Prix crown. ![]()
